Celebrate International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in Galway!

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the official start of the 16 Days of Activism. This event is celebrated all over the globe and by many organisations in Galway:

COPE Galway Waterside House and Galway Rape Crisis Centre are jointly taking part in the “The White Ribbon Campaign” (WRC), which is a national campaign supported by SAFE Ireland (the representative body for Women’s Refuges and Support Services), by the Rape Crisis Network Ireland and by the Men’s Development Network. The campaign runs from November 25th to December 10th. This campaign was launched today at noon in the City Museum.

Cllr. Catherine Connelly launched a local campaign by Domestic Violence Response (DVR) by releasing biodegradable balloons today at the Millennium Park Bridge opposite the Cathedral at 12noon. This campaign aims to highlight that 1 in 5 women is affected by domestic violence.

Further events highlighting the issue in Co. Galway will take place in Solas Family Resource Centre, Headford, Co. Galway on Tuesday 30 November, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, Clann Family Resource Centre, Oughterard from 11am to 12 midday, on Thursday 2 December, and the Ard Ri Hotel, Tuam on Tuesday 7 December from 10am to 12.30pm.
